Current understanding
We look at what the student understands now and how confidently they can apply that knowledge.
Our assessment process helps identify what the student understands, where important gaps may exist and what should happen next.
Because a personalized learning plan begins with clear evidence.
A disappointing mark may point to a missing foundation, a misunderstood concept, difficulty applying knowledge independently or a loss of confidence. Looking only at the final answer does not tell the whole story.
HKay Academy uses assessment to understand the learner behind the result. The purpose is not to label or rank the student. It is to identify a practical starting point for focused support.

We look at what the student understands now and how confidently they can apply that knowledge.

We identify earlier concepts and skills that may be affecting current coursework or slowing progress.

We observe how the student approaches unfamiliar questions, explains thinking and works through difficulty.

We connect the evidence with the student’s immediate needs, course expectations and longer-term goals.
The exact assessment activities depend on the student’s grade, subject and current needs. Each stage is designed to make the final recommendation more useful and appropriate.
We first discuss the student’s learning needs, current concerns, goals and the services HKay Academy offers.
The student completes selected activities designed to reveal current understanding, strengths and important learning gaps.
We consider the student’s responses, methods, misconceptions and confidence, not simply the number of correct answers.
We identify priorities and recommend a personalized learning plan, program and pace when HKay support is a suitable fit.
The assessment helps turn broad concerns into focused priorities. Families leave with a clearer understanding of the student’s starting point and the type of support that may be most helpful.
A clearer academic starting point
Identified strengths and foundational gaps
Priorities for learning and skill development
A recommended program and learning rhythm
A shared direction for the student, parent and coach

The process reviews subject understanding, foundational knowledge and learning readiness relevant to HKay Academy programs.

The findings help determine appropriate priorities, pace and support. They do not guarantee a particular grade or outcome.

Assessment establishes the starting point. Ongoing work and progress reviews provide new evidence that can shape what comes next.
“Every consultation should answer two questions: Where is this student now, and what should happen next?”
We’ll learn about the student’s needs and explain the most appropriate next step.
